Period Drive

May 25 – June 25

Please bring one or more feminine care products for our Community Donation Period Drive in support of Access Period, whose mission is to help combat period poverty by thoughtfully distributing free menstrual products in Nebraska. 

GOAL: Collect 500 Feminine Care Products
For every item you bring, you’ll be entered into a raffle for one FREE Season Membership for our 2023-2024 season! 

Period Poverty Facts: 
-1 in 4 people who menstruate struggled to purchase period products within the last year due to lack of income. In Nebraska, 1 in 8 women and girls between the ages of 12 and 44 live below the federal poverty line.
-1/3 of low-income women report missing work, school, or similar commitments due to lack of access to period supplies.

Friday, June 2 – 7pm Featured Artist: Chris Holtmeier
Chris Holtmeier is an Omaha, Nebraska based photographer specializing in portrait, family, wedding, and editorial work. Expressions in Motion: An Artistic Exploration of Dance, Nature and the Rhythms of Life features several works from Chris’s The Dance Project photo series.

Saturday, June 10 – 7pm Featured Artist : Maddie Hake-Brown

Maddie is an Omaha-based artist specializing in 2D painting and body painting. Her work aims to capture human emotions and has a focus on celebrating the feminine form.

“This art exhibition is a celebration of movement and motion in all its forms, exploring the various ways in which movement is expressed through dance, life, and nature. From the graceful movements of ballet to the fluidity of water to the sway of trees in the wind, the exhibition features a diverse range of artistic styles that capture the beauty and energy of dance and movement and the vibrant rhythm of life that is constantly in motion and propels us forward.”  ~Curator Jared Spence

Expressions in Motion is on display to the public for the duration of the run of Dance Nation during Box Office Hours (M-F, 10am-4pm).

Swing Into Spring With JordanTheNinja and the Omaha Jitterbugs!

You may recognize Jordan as an actor on our very own BLUEBARN stage, but he’s also an amazing dancer and dance instructor! Get your dancing feet on because he’ll be teaching a class in association with the Omaha Jitterbugs before our evening show.

Join us for two pre-show conversations with Jared Spence, curator of the Footsteps of My Mother group art exhibition, celebrating Asian American artists. The work tells stories about embracing one’s heritage, honoring the journeys of those who came before, and negotiating identity in a world where you are seen as an “other.”

The Footsteps of My Mother exhibit is on display to the public for the duration of the run of The Chinese Lady during Box Office Hours (M-F, 10am-4pm).

Playwright Lloyd Suh sits down (virtually) with director Wai Yim and cast members Lisa Tejero and Jimmy Nguyen to talk about bringing the story of Afong Moy, The Chinese Lady, to life onstage, and the joys and challenges of telling this story in Omaha, Nebraska.

 

Exploration of Chinese Teas with Artemis Tea

Join us for a pre-show conversation with Jared Spence, curator of the WE the People group art exhibition, which explores the social and political structures and systems in place in our country that marginalizes certain communities of people. The exhibition features multicultural artists of different ages and backgrounds currently residing in the Omaha and Lincoln area. Bring your questions to the WE the People artists who offer a wealth of united and varied experiences and points of view.

In partnership with Nebraska Writers Collective, BLUEBARN invited Nebraska Youth Poet Laureate runner-up Isabella Mitchell to respond to What the Constitution Means to Me through poetry. We’re grateful to Isabella, a Central High senior, for sharing her poem, An Address to a Bare-Boned Nation, in her own voice.

This group will guide the audience through a discussion around the impact of constitutional rights in today’s society, with a focus on women, BIPOC, and LGBTQ2s+ matters.
